Hard to call it a "sham" when the least popular album (of the five nominees) got album of the year. And it was nice to see nominations across multiple genres rather than a run-off between the best of the Top 40. Vince Gill's album was great, but maybe a little polished and "safe." Among the others, I would rate Herbie Hancock's and Amy Winehouse's the best. The Hancock album is really nice - folks should give it a spin. It's like when Steely Dan beat Eminem a few years ago. Eminem had all the pop culture buzz, but the Dan album was just head and shoulders better, in my opinion.
