You really are a killjoy, you know that? His name's JJ Johnson, and he's a great guy and a great father. And of course a great drummer.
Never a doubt about that. I thought he was a great drummer. Obviously the video shows how good he is. It was really hard for me to anyone else to play the guitar after you brought up Will's brother to play guitar that one time at the Steamboat. I said a littler prayer that night (please God let him tour with David :))I will say that bad ass acoustical guitar you played for Bitter Tree was the best.
And i have a lot of respect for John Mayer. He's obviously super- talented, and a surprisingly good guitar player but on top of that I think he's shown a lot of dignity, and doesnt seem the slightest bit afraid to stretch himself as far as he can go musically.
I just get a little tired of watching him play with the greats like Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. I was listening to John Mayer 3 years before he broke in and thought this guy will never make it he sounds way to much vocally like Dave Mathews and I do recall someone telling me that "he had not suffered enough". So his in into the business was his pretty boy looks and then he shifted to the blues and that was made possible only because of his break into the business. Hell David we can find a player on nearly every street corner here in Austin that could bust his chops.
He could so quickly have been gobbled up by the whole sexy young thing scene, but he pursued genuine musical goals instead. I think you should take your hat off to him.
I will admit it was chancy. But he knew that path he was on would destroy his music credibility. Smart move. Unlike Norah Jones who has yet to stretch out of her music comfort zone.
