The phrase "Black Friday" always brings to mind the Steely Dan song. And thinking of Steely Dan makes me think of their campaign for the Rock & Roll HOF. http://www.steelydan.com/hof.html

And then there were their memo to Luke Wilson about the idea for "You, Me, and Dupree" being stolen from their song "Cousin Dupree". Even though it was Owen in the movie. http://www.steelydan.com/heyluke.html

And that makes me think of Owen, and how his very private issues are now out on public display because our society is so obsessed with every fucking moronic thing other than their own futures that the grocery store checkout lines can barely contain the effluvium regarding Britney, Marie Osmond, and who the hell the Olson twins are banging, either singly or as a tandem.

But, I just love the Dan, especially at this time of year. Their special brand of cynicism and wit keep me as grounded as possible in this wacky holiday season. I actually saw a guy yell at a mall greeter the other day "It's Christmas goddammit! Don't tell me Happy Holidays". To which a passerby said something in Yiddish that I couldn't catch, but I'm guessing that it was funny as hell and would have made Walt and Don proud.
