I'm not so sure its entirely trickle-down.  I think a lot of the antipathy is anecdotal.  Just about everyone I know can rattle off a list of 10 or more totally idiotic, unjustified actions taken by a union if one has worked with any.  I won't bore you with details, but I could write five or six paragraphs.  I will say that my father has been pretty much a Teamsters lifer, and I recognize many of the benefits gained and why the unions exist.  I'll support the workers' rights to organize but also the company's right to try to break the union, should it be able to do so.
