I would propose any of Bernard Hermann's scores for Hitchcock films, with Vertigo at the top of the list.

A Top 10 without This Is Spinal Tap is taking itself far too seriously, but thank goodness there was no Jazz Singer, Disney animated movies (possible exception of Randy Newman's work), or anything with Barbra Streisand.

While I agree that a lot of films recycle old hits (think Forrest Gump), American Graffiti and The Big Chill set a high standard. Diner was right up there too.
