Well that's the whole point and why I like the lyrics.  I think it is kind of a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the prototypic excesses.  No, I don't support the notion of rock idolatry, but it is so well entrenched in American pop culture, and I think there's nothing wrong with having a laugh about it, which is what the song did for me.  Good on the boys from Nickelback.   Similar to that Joe Walsh song, "Life's Been Good to me So far".   My fav in that one was:

"I live in hotels, tear out the walls.  I have accountants pay for it all.."
