Gene,

I'm normally with you old boy, and perhaps I need to lighten up (all day, with 25-6th graders, can do a number on one's perspective), but lyrically, the song is the antithesis of what rock n' roll means to me. I abhor the excess glamorized by the song. The whole concept of  wanting to achieve rock star status in order to acquire all that goes with it ( fame, fortune, women, well, I can understand the latter reason) leaves me cold. Perhaps I'm just disgusted with the omnipresent mcmansions that have sprung up in my area. Or it might be the behemoth SUVs (with requisite yellow ribbons). America worships at the alter of consumerism and the song is preaching to that choir. With few exceptions, the music that most urgently speaks to me isn't found in stadia, or arenas, it's in small venues, by relatively anonymous singers, who are telling compelling tales that resonate with me. Sorry for the rant, it's been a long day, and a guy in an Expedition cut me off earlier.
