I just watched The Last King of Scotland, which portays Uganda during Amin's reign of terror. Forest Whitaker's transformation into the dictator was sensational. My sister-in-law is Ugandan, and her father was killed by Amin's troops. She understandably has no desire to re-live the experience, and won't watch the movie. Tribalism, religious intolerance, disease, poverty, and the lingering effects of colonialism, make it hard to be hopeful for Africa.
