With the opening of the Creation Museum this past weekend, the topic was floating around. I was surprised and more accurately alarmed to hear a statistic that said something like 50% of Americans believe in this theory, upon doing a bit of searching I found that the real poll results were that 51% of Americans feel that humans are created in God's image. I can live with that assertion. But on more than one media outlet the stat was phrased to imply that 51% believe in the "Earth is 6,000 -10,000 years old" theory. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070529/NEWS01/705290405

I also had the chance to sit and chat with my father for a bit this weekend. He and I don't talk about "real" stuff often as he tends to get agitated that I seem to have so little faith in church (NOT God, but church) and a bunch of "useless liberal Utopian views". Still I was surprised when he said he goes along with the Earth is 6,000 years old theory. I put a few questions to him to try to make him defend his position (So there were dinosaurs on Noah's Ark?). Thats where the conversation ended.

How did this happen? Has it really been in the last 6 years that people have tossed out reason and science so completely that we'll buy into anything?

I don't have an answer. I may well just be venting, but 6,000 years old??? Really?? Is that the new "truth"

God help us. Seriously.
