I received this email tonight from my friend Ann, a physician who is the Director of Enso House, a non-profit home I helped establish a few years ago to care for the dying here in the Pacific Northwest. Her email is very short but says a lot. I thought it was worth sharing.

April 27

We're taking care of Joyce - the third in a row of unconscious (literally) animal-body dying, spirit unknown-doing guests, again finding that the best we have to offer is nothing better than safety and good food for her skittish, afraid family.

May 7

Over eleven days later – a lesson in patience for each of us – Joyce dies just before midnight. Her son says all he feels is gratitude.

May 8

The fawn born outside Joyce’s window on the evening she died reappears this morning - less wobbly, still nursing - patiently guided thru the grass by her mother.

Everybody’s in fine spirits. Thanks for many people’s help. We’ll keep you posted. Ann
