We went to Iraq due to claims that they had WMD that were a threat to us and or the world. There are no WMD in Iraq and they were none there in the 10 or 15 years leading up to our attack. So, by default we met goal #1 for going to Iraq...eliminate WMD threat. Check, done. We stated we wanted to remove Saddam because his leadership there was also a threat. He was caught and hung. Check, done.
So, there is a government in place that despite its actions claims to be friendly to the United States. They have a standing army. There is a civil war already being fought there and it will be fought there whether our soldiers are there or not. There was a civil war fought in the United States on the way to this country becoming the City on the Hill and shining star of democracy to the world. Many people died in our civil war. So the question I have for you is what reasons would you give for our troops to remain there?Remember when you answer that these are the same reasons we would give to the loved ones of any person who dies in Iraq going forward and your answer defines the value of each of these lost lives.
