Thanx Reg.  The first two flicks you mentioned are now on my to find list, …the third one, now that you mention it, could have easily been on my list…as it is just exactly as good as you say it is.  It’s been years since we’ve seen it…and aught not to be years before we see it again, my sweet ocean-eyed bride and I.  I agree with you completely about Winter Kills.

This thread also brings to mind a few flicks that were
inadvertently (as more will inevitably pop up from time to time)
omitted from my verbose and messy, but certainly well-intended,
list:

The Message (1976)
A Walk in the Clouds
Captains Courageous
 American History X

A Fist Full of Dollars

Silent Running (1972)
An Officer & a Gentleman

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Donny Darko (but that has already been well covered on the dbis)

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring

John Carpenter’s Vampires

The Manhattan Project
The Final Countdown

Beverly Hills Cop

The Replacemnts

Only the Lonely

Hang ’Em High

The Big Empty
In My Country

Rocky Balboa

Pretty Woman

True Believer

From the Hip

Open Range

Revenge

Cocoon

Gandhi

Identity

Chaplin

Salvador

Rosewood

& then there’s an older flick with Martin Sheen about early nuclear testing and the use of soldiers as guinea pigs to see how close to ground zero and just how much radiation the human body can withstand, etc.; can’t recall the title (Something to do with Manhattan Project/Trinity or the like?  A Martin Sheen message vehicle I believe, and so be it.  Any help?)

…& so it goes…& goes
