Martin O'Malley (Dem) won Governor for State of Maryland, and that really surprised me, because I heard he wasn't doing all that shit hot as Mayor of Baltimore and I think Bob Erlich ( Repub) was doing a fine job for the past 8 years. The balance of power in Maryland is with the areas near Baltimore and DC, and is usually Democrat. Western Maryland, starting at the Appalachian foothills is solidly Republican.
O'Malley is young, vibrant, party hearty (from what I've gleaned...hell he's Irish, waddaya expect) and leads an active weekend band called O'Malleys' March. They play Celtic styled rock at several of the Baltimore pubs. But...can he govern? I have my doubts.

On a happier note, my dear friend Ellen Cohen (Dem) won her Texas district 134. I've known her since I was a kid growing up in Montreal, where she's from as well, though I think she was born in Cleveland. Check her out. http://www.ellencohen.org/
