I like John Mayer, I really do.  However, he is over-hyped. His forte in my esteemed opinion, is singer/songwriter, not blues guitarist extraordinaire.  He is a great musician, OK, but not the blues maven he might hope to be;sorry.  His best blues licks are in the SRV imitation category, and frankly he should stop with the Hendrix covers already, because his Hendrix covers frankly suck shit through a tennis racket.  He does a pathetic version of Wait Until Tomorrow on his last live album which is practically an insult to Jimi's memory,  but did some other Stevie sounding things that really knocked me out.  No doubt the boy can play, but there are limits.   I have a boot of him trying to do Wind Cries Mary and fer fuck's sake he doesn't even have the correct chord voicings.  Seriously.  I know, 'cause I can play that mo' fo'...note for note....

Rant being complete, I do like John, especially that first CD, I thought it was a gem, and I will give a listen to the new one.  I listened to the live one on my headphones all the way to Australia, and I did like several of the tunes very much.  He can cook.  Peace Love and all that jam, but cease and desist with the Hendrix, puhlease!  And, he's real cute, I'm sure he kisses the girls and makes 'em cry despite that rather ugly tatoo on his forearm.
