I like it quite a bit. On the first play through I really liked the last track Ain't Talkin'.

What I think is kind of odd is I heard somewhere that this record is part of a trilogy that began with Time Out of Mind, moved into Love and Theft, and this is the completion of that cycle. The record does seem like it could be sort of a continuation of Love and Theft but Time Out of Mind always seemed to me to be a sequel to Oh Mercy. I don't really see how Time Out of Mind fits in with the other two...I mean with Time and Oh Mercy you've got that Daniel Lanois guy making everything sound as if it was recorded in a canyon or a big empty airplane hanger...echo...echo...echo...I wonder if you have to repeat everything you say to Danny six or eight times. I mean those are great records but the guy just loves to bury everything in what seems to be the same effects...and quite honestly sometimes that gets a little too muddy for my tastes.

I think Modern Times sounds great because everything sounds as if the band is right there in the room with you and Dylan probably sings better on this album than anything in quite a while. He sounds like he's become quite a crooner.
