So far, the conflict in Iraq has cost $306 billion. We still don't have the airport security we need. The cost is "prohbitive" at $22 billion and even if we started installling it now, it would be 2024 until it's finished. Contrary to the President and Prime Minister, we are not safer now and won't be until our resources are focused and used effectively. As for this plot, of course I am relieved and grateful that it was uncovered (my friend's 15 year old is skedded to fly home from London next week) - but the timing is suspect to me - two days after the Lamont victory, with the Middle East in flames, civil war in Iraq and the run up to November. Yes, these terrorists had money and intentions - but even they had NO idea whether they actually could get on planes with these materials and, in any event, had not done ONE dry run yet. And the President and Cheney were all ready to use the non-event as politically expedient; I guess they'd only be happy if the Pakistanis could figure out a plane of Democrats and Cindy Sheehan relatives to blow up.
