I do own an SUV but I need it for two reasons. I have a 90 minute roundtrip commute to work every day. The winters in Maine can present some dangerous driving conditions. Our roads are worse than our weather. I also have a herniated disc in my back that requires me to sit as upright as possible. I'm 6' 5" and there is no other car on the market today that I would be able to ride in comfortably. I have a Ford Explorer Sport. I get 19 miles to a gallon hwy. At times I have made the commute without turning on the heater on because that really eats the gas. I make trips to Springfield MA on a monthly basis with other co-workers. We car pool. I HATE spending $40 a week in gas. I'm a cheap prick. Ask my wife. Yes, I own an SUV but I HATE it. If my back would allow it I would drive a Passat. But I can't.
