Interesting article, and I agree with most of it.  There is always a hysterical form of over-reaction in the press, when someone lets something careless slip from their lips, as I think the case here.  Same with the "moron" comment we discussed earlier.  Sure the statement had racial overtones, but was it INTENTIONALLY rascist, and moreover, does it warrant this hysteria by fellow politicians that he "step down"??   Like we don't know already, that Mr. Lott and people of his ilk are at least..ahem.."racially conscious" (to put it mildly). 

Remember ol' Pierre Trudeau (see several posts back).."Fuddle Duddle".   And that comment WAS intentional....so there.  Thank God, HE didn't step down. The country would have been in a real mess back then.
