I had always read 40,000 people die a day due to starvation. The reason I recall this figure is if one remembers, about twenty or so years ago (think during the Live Aid era) there was huge concern over the crashing of jumbo jets and someone pointed out that it would take something like 325 747s to crash in one day to equal that of how many people die of hunger in one day.
