I believe there will be an internal revolution within the Democratic Party over these losses. While many will state the Kerry loss will open the party up for a Hillary run, I disagree and think it will more so set up a return of Howard Dean or a Howard Dean-like figure.
The Democrats are behind the Republicans in running and winning campaigns and are now just learning some aspects of campaigning that the Republicans have successfully used for some time now.
To me, in looking back at the entire mess and from a Democratic standpoint, I think Kerry's biggest failure was to hold Bush's feet to the fire on many issues - he was unable to pin him down on several huge issues and has no one to blame but himself and insiders.
Hopefully we can say good bye to the DLC, Bob Strum and Terry MacAulliffe.
I'm still in disbelief that with Bush's track record Dems still managed to do so poorly.
(On a humorous note - of our local contested races, the only winning vote I cast ended up being for our REPUBLCIAN coroner).
