Allawi has spent the last quarter century trying to overthrow Saddam. Do the people of Iraq hate him for that? I doubt it. Do some people in Iraq hate him for that? Sure...those in power. Is Allawi the ideal person to run the country? I have no idea. Do I have the necessary information at my disposal (I'm not talking about newspapers, tv or mass media) to come to an educated decision? No.
It would be my guess that most of the influential, well educated, political types who would make for good leaders of Iraq have already met their demise thanks to the previous administration.
I'm not all that excited about Allawi presiding over Iraq but I don't see that there are a lot of candidates out there willing to take on the role.
