The unconscionable flu vaccine shortage is upon us yet again. I find it astounding that we rely upon one foreign supplier to safeguard the American public from the flu. It would have seemed prudent long ago to foresee the potential for such shortages and thus devote adequate resources to produce an abundance of vaccine. A potential disaster is looming that should have been prevented. Even if the government would have subsidized the expense by what, a few billion dollars, it would be money well spent. Kerry should pounce upon this issue. This is legitimate Homeland Security! $150, 000, 000, 000 for Iraq and we can't come up with enough money to provide protection for the American public from a reasonably predictable threat? This issue cuts across party lines like few others do. Kerry should soundly criticize Bush for this blunder, and declare that this would not happen on his watch (and shame on him or any future administration that would let it).
