I don't know if "liberal" is the correct word re: Canada.  I think the essential difference, is akin to Britain, Canada and Canadians at least have preserved the ability to think and reason.  This country in contrast, is totally reactionary and hysterical, oftimes flying in the face of certain realities. 

I was born in Canada, and have maintained my Canadian citizenship.  I am also seriously contemplating a return to my native land over the next few years.  I took out Canadian citizenship for my sons a few years back, and I think that will give them a great opportunity should they decide to try life in the Great White North (brrrrrrrrrrr....).
