The need to find out what the criminal is thinking has nothing to do  with personal satisfaction of the public. It is a necessity for the law enforcement community to learn from these events and try and prevent or be better able to solve any future similar situations. By understanding the mindset, belief structures or motives for certain behaviors they can better work future cases.
