Okay, here is the abortion thread....how about some ground rules and basics...

Let's keep it cordial and calm.

First, I'm curious Kevin G - Exactly when is the moment of no return when it comes to abortions.  For example, is it as soon as the sperm fertilizes the egg or viability?

What of incest, rape or health of the mother or if the mother is a 12 year old girl or mentally handicapped?

What are you going to do with women who do have abortions?  Put them in jail?  What of the doctors?  Or husbands/boyfriends/father?  Are they not co-conspirators in under your laws?

What of women with means who would flee the US to have this procedure done?

What of women other than the non-Christian faith or other faiths or culture that do not look upon abortion the same way you do?

Certainly I do not think the majority of people like the instances of abortion and that we all wish they did not occur, however, through religion hypocrisy we have only created a world where they do continue.  As a faux-puritanical society we run from sex-education while selling sex to all of our children.  The religious in this country have fought sex-education all the way and then act suprised when young people start producing babies.

So what is going to be done with all these young people who do what nature tells them to do?  Are the well off going to line up out side of newly founded adoption clinics for all the new babies out there?  I doubt it.

Lastly, I think that if someone who has more knowledge about abortion than I studied the statistics of abortion, the statistics would probably reveal several surprising things.  For one, I assume one high number of abortions come from the influence of parents and religion.  What I means is that the parents of a young woman pressure her to have an abortion out of a variety of reasons: she's too young to have a baby, it will be an embarrassment, no job, religion, et cetera.

For the record, I feel it is for a woman's choice to make the final decision in all of this.  Certainly, in a personal relationship of my own, I would hope I would have input, but I feel this is between a woman, herself, her God and her doctor.  I also believe abortion is also a tool men use help control women; that for a variety of reasons men are still fighting the independence of women.  Especially those men on the religious right.
