First, I gotta say even though you were being kind, I felt pretty sad when I read you don't post as much because of me. Man, I don't want to be the cause of that. The number of posters has shrunk here and it sucks for me to be part of the reason for that. If that's the case I'll post less. This is more fun with more people involved and I don't want to drive anyone off. That includes people that support Bush or the right wing...I just reserve my right to disagree and to try to get more of an explanation of whatever view is being presented.
Now, I suppose on Hung I seemed very serious but that's only because the situation involves my wife and could cause her to get some serious shit. In terms of how it would affect her...yeah, I'm serious.
As far as Hung goes...hey, if he can make a buck at it and he's enjoying himself that's great. If it's what he wants to do I hope he rides it for all it's worth. It's none of my business and I don't have to listen.
I don't see anything racist about Hung or his act or how his record company wants to present or market him. We live in a society though that can find racism in just about anything...so my concern was not to put my wife at risk for allowing kids to pretend to be this guy.
I don't have any issue with Hung...except I don't want to hear him sing...or his record company, manager, or whoever else is making a buck off this. I also don't care if people want to spend their money and time on Hung and his records. One man's junk is another man's treasure. Also falls under "Not my business."
To some extent I think it is kind of interesting that he is such a phenomenon. I think it would be interesting to try to understand why kids find this guy so fascinating.
I also think Kent has a point about where the general public's taste seems to be headed. Would Hung have been a celebrity in another decade? Somehow I don't think so. He may have made it onto The Gong Show...and would likely been gonged off. I guess the same fate he suffered on the new version of The Gong Show...American Idol.
Is Chuck Barris making any money off this?
Warhol was right on the money I guess.
The only place I have my doubts about what you said was that Hung's success would help the record company sign another Abra Moore. Somehow I just have a hard time buying into that idea only because they seem more greed driven than that.
It does seem likely that if they found they could make a quick buck with someone like Hung, they will try to repeat the formula.
So yeah, I agree Hung should probably enjoy this because it won't last (I should note here I also thought Passion of The Christ wouldn't make money) but that doesn't mean Koch won't attempt to find another clown to milk. I think they should maybe change the name to Krotch.
Britney is pretty and there's the glamour there and all that to attract the kids...is Hung the anti-Britney? Is this some sort of counter marketing scheme?
Bottom line is, no I don't take him or those involved seriously. Maybe some of our board members with children have a more interesting and informed take on this guy. They are the ones who may have a child begging for the new Billy Hung record and they have to endure it on long car rides. Poor bastards!
