I don't watch his tv show but I do listen to his radio show with some regularity. I will say that I think he's changed his tone somewhat of late. I'm not a real fan of his...I'm sure past posts have revealed that...but I am willing to give the guy a break if I think he's being upfront. I think these days, at least when I've heard him, he seems to be trying to live up to how he's promoted himself...which is as a guy that's going to try to look out for the regular Joe.
On a recent show I listened to he was going after judges...not liberal judges but guys who've let criminals go and then these guys they let go went out and committed another crime. He told people if they called in and reported judges they had an issue with in their community, he'd research them and use his show to go after them. He seems to be doing this kind of thing a lot more of late with other issues as well. I don't recall hearing him do that in the past but if he's going to use his position that way...I mean and really do the work and the research then I think that's great. It's not an easy thing though and I wonder if it's part of being the guy that's "lookin' out for you" as a tie in with his book.
I know he's not on the Bush bandwagon and he's been critical of him but what else can you do...the Bush people are making some big mistakes I think...and in truth I think Rove is behind a lot of the mistakes. Rove is hurting Bush of late, I think, with some of this stuff he's coming up with. So O'Reilly is not going to tow the line in this case. I think he is moving more toward not aligning himself with either side. Which works best in his line of work. I guess the thing about him is though that I just don't think he's that great at going over the issues.
We've got a guy here in Boston that's a conservative radio host and he makes O'Reilly and Rush look like preschool kids. I mean he's very bright and he knows how to take apart an issue. I listen to him a lot because to me...I think it's important to hear what each side is saying and I'd rather hear someone that really knows whats what. I'm sort of glad he's not national because he argues for the right like nobody I've ever heard...meaning if you were going to debate something you'd want him on your side. It's kind of funny to think that the best conservative talk show host is in Boston. He comes on right after O'Reilly here at 3pm and man he just blows O'Reilly away.
I don't agree with what he's saying a lot of the time but I like the way he builds his arguments, understands the issues, and really knows his politics. Except on this gay marriage thing he's being a complete nut...he actually has been going on the radio and saying some real nasty stuff...actually stuff that makes your "fag" comments look tame...and keep in mind this guy is Boston based...liberal Boston...you'd think he'd be getting death threats. I think that's why reading your comments, while I wasn't crazy about them, didn't bug me that much. I hear a guy on the radio almost daily say stuff that makes you look like a saint. Dale got slammed for poorly phrasing something and he was supporting the issue everyone was upset about...this guy on the radio would probably cause heart attacks here.
He does not support Bush and says he won't vote for him but he tells his listeners to make sure they vote for him. He has no use for the Democrats at all...but he says he likes Kerry and thinks he's the best Democrat to run for President in a long time...but he won't vote for him either.
So, that's the big thing for me here...I hear a guy that's far better than O'Reilly all the time, so to me O'Reilly just is a bit of a bore. You guys on the right would like this guy and those on the left would think they were having a nightmare...
