The problem is throughout the last 2,000 years those who do harbor  racist, anti-semitic feelings have used Jesus' death as justfication to persecute an entire race and religion. So when someone presents a passion play on such a grand scale as Gibson, many who have seen and felt firsthand the ignorance of so many supposed christians, they are naturally suspicious as to people's reaction, to what amounts to one man's interpretation of numerous writers' interpretation, of the last days of Jesus. There will be those who will believe every part and parcel of this movie and it will fuel their distrust and hate for those who are different from them.
