Well, I'm not sure who you are talking about when you say the delusion in the US.
I don't think there is any delusion in the Trump administration, they are locked in to aligning with Putin, always was their goal, they have not deviated from that. When they talk about negotiations now, they have no intention of involving European leaders, no intention of involving Ukraine, they are going to talk to the Russians and do what the Russians want.
Trump is obviously not the mastermind here but he is following orders and the orders appear to come direct from Putin. While they are working to destroy NATO there, the Trump administration is looking to wipe out all of the US counterintelligence community. Wipe it out, so we are defenseless against Putin and foreign bad actors. Why? Well, obviously not to protect the US and if we are not protecting the US we sure don't care about NATO and protecting Europe.
Probably most average citizens here do not understand this, so perhaps that is who you think is delusional.
The MAGA/Republicans control the entire government right now. Everything. The Democrats have no say, no recourse. Their fight is pretty much what David has said it is, which is just to try to slow the wave of destruction MAGA is attempting and yeah, the courts, filing lawsuits, has been the key strategy because the Trump administration is openly breaking laws.
Yes, the courts will not be quick and our courts won't be able to slow down what will now occur in Europe. Basically, our president is allowed to set his own foreign policy goals, and his goals are to create a new axis of evil, but we are in it now and proud to be in it. MAGA wants to unite with mother Russia, wants to unite with North Korea. Because the way they run their countries is how this new administration intends to run ours. They are the models for MAGA.
The MAGA voters, they are a clueless lot. They probably in many cases do believe that European countries are worse than Putin. FOX promotes, Right-wing media openly promotes and has for some time Putin's agenda, it is repeated and taught to them as if that is what they should embrace.
Putin could start attacking free democratic European countries tomorrow and MAGA voters, the regular people, would cheer that on.
The elected MAGA crew, well, they are all in with Putin. Those speeches from Vance and Hegseth, that is how the people running MAGA feel.
To me what this looks like is pretty simple. This is the MAGA plan, separate from Europe, give every advantage to Putin, leave European countries on their own. Then as Putin heats things up on one side of you, on the other side Trump will ask "What will you give me?" not to stop Putin, but to just lessen the blow a bit. Trump himself does not call the shots, he just wants his payoffs.
When that US intelligence guy said a few days or more back, Americans should probably cancel trips overseas, well, that was because he understood, the Trump administration is working as hard as they can to make most of the world hate us.
They are attempting to bring total chaos to Europe and looking for ways to profit themselves in the process.
Trump wants to be able to point at the rest of the world on fire while he rapes his own country, and say to his followers "It's not my fault you are suffering now, it is all those European nations that are causing wars and suffering."
He literally is probably planning to say to Denmark, "You want any help from me, give me Greenland. Or I don't care what happens to you."
This is how they intended it to work. They don't have a plan beyond getting the chaos rolling though. From there, I think he believes some countries will just kneel at his feet.
