I was in a dispensary a few days ago and the young woman behind the counter did not know that there had been an election. She had not heard of Kamala Harris. She thought WWII was the US fighting the communists. I said, "How can you interpret what you are seeing if you can't put it in some kind of context? If everything that happens is just completely disconnected from anything that comes before or after it?"

She said, "Yeah, but both sides say something different, I just ended up tuning it out." I said, "But if you don't know the history behind it, how do you know what you're even looking at? How can you tell what side you might want to be on?" "I can't," she said. Another fellow waiting said, "There's only two sides, the right side and the wrong side." I said, "But how do you know which is which?" He looked completely taken aback. "Well, I'm on God's side," he finally mustered.  "Ah," I said,  and we just shuffled our feet there for awhile until our orders came.

We're re-entering the Middle Ages.
