Hi Folks,

I'd second Reg's tip on Joe Henry. His early stuff is equally interesting, `Short Man's Room` being a song-noir of quality unseen since Warren Zevon!

Currently I'm getting back into to the solo work of Paul Westerberg, the 3 albums I'd recommend are called `Suicaine Gratification` (from 1999), `14 Songs` (from 1993) and `Eventually` (from 1996). I'm sure he's already a well known songster in these kinds of circles, but if you don't know him, he's a songwriter as reclusive, witty, passionate and criminally underexposed as David Baerwald. Westerberg's earlier stuff is rockier, but the latest album is a mature rounded album well worth tracking down.

Finally, my other tip for the summer is Jackie Leven's new album (provisionally titled) `The Bridge is too twisted, I'll fall off the Side` It's going to be out in early July and will also feature Pere Ubu's leadman David Thomas. As a live perfomer JL is the missing link between Sam Kinison and Van Morrison, on record he's probably the best British songwriter today. If you like Scott Walker, Bert Jansch and Van the Man then you should like Jackie's music. I heard a few new tracks at a gig a few months ago, and I have a feeling the new album is going to be good.

Have a good one,
Richard
