Hi Folks,
I have a couple of questions that follow the spirit of the current Baerwald-centric thread.
Firstly - what advice would you give to songwriters? Are you from the Leonard Cohen school of thought (e.g. it ought to take 2 years to write if it'll be any good) or would you side with Bob Dylan (e.g. great songs can be nailed in 15 minutes if the inspiration comes) You might have heard the saying from the Irish folk-meister Christy Moore, who said "the songs are there, and it's your job to pluck them down before some bastard like Paul Simon does"
Secondly - where did the stylistic inspiration come from for `The Toughest Whore In Babylon`? It sounds like the you and the band were either going for the `jug band` groove or you'd all been inspired by British Vaudeville. (You might be familiar with the Bonzo Dog Dooh Dah Band and their hit `I'm The Urban Spaceman Baby`) The reason I'm asking about this song, is because the song was playing earlier today and it reminded me of another favourite writer of mine, Loudon Wainwright.
Regards,
Richard
