While we're on the subject of music in that genre (and even Steve Reich in particular), has anyone else heard his "Proverb"? It sounds like the medieval period crashed into yesterday and the two times decided to meditate together, and it's all based on the text "how small a thought it takes to fill a whole life," (by Wittgenstein) and is simply lovely. I would highly recommend it; it's on the same CD as his "City Life," a somewhat less stunning but still fascinating piece based on samples of noises from the city integrated into a sort of rock-influenced classical music sound. Great stuff.

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone else out there know of Jim White? He's got one album so far (that I know of) called, "Wrong-Eyed Jesus," on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. I just picked it up the other day, and it's really amazing. He's a solid singer/songwriter, but it sort of sounds like he's been living (and recording) in a swamp somewhere in a jungle with Tom Waits' producer and a whole mess of funky guitars. Nifty stuff.

Sorry to ramble, I've just been enjoying a lot of music for the first time in a while lately...
