Yin and yang I'm reading in this context as black and white. However, there's far more music out there than "thought-provoking social/emotional commentary and mind-numbingly catchy entertainment for entertainment's sake." Ok: one of the main purposes of art is to entertain. But Madonna's music is about as entertaining and as valid as entertainment as the WWF. Scads of people love both, in all their catchy and vacuous pandering to a public that seems no longer able to discriminate between the genuine and the contrived, superficial, mercenary output of those just out to exploit themselves for attention and (ca-ching!) personal riche$. This has nothing to do with whether I like the product or not. If Madonna's an "artist," then God help us. Con-artist, perhaps� Being able to please an audience? Please� Have a serious look at modern-day pop culture and see how easily amused (i.e. shepherded) the general populace is�
