After that, well, we've got to become the UNITED States again. This is, to me, one of the big closing arguments in this election, that one candidate, Donald John Trump, is promising to continue to divide us and do further harm to this nation, and the other, Kamala Harris, is promising to bring us back to being a unified country and govern for all.
This is as clear a fact as you can get. If you want to continue down a path of division and sides hating other sides, people hating other people because of who they are voting for, of massive signs and flags swearing a loyalty oath to a man, not to our country...choose Trump. He will deliver the hate, the violence, the division, the chaos you crave.
If you want to go back to being the United States, Harris is the clear choice.
To get back to being United, with a capital U, we have to start using qualifiers in the conversations. We have to be able to say some white people, or some Trump supporters, or some of whatever group we are talking about because doing the blanket thing upsets the people that are not whatever thing we blanket them with.
I'm not saying that was what E was doing, I get what he is saying, what he is saying is happening, and that entire insane event Trump just had in New York was a massive example of white people behaving badly...but let's face it, Trump attracts shitheads so if you want to find a bunch of shitheads, go to a Trump event.
I have been trying to train myself to be careful in how I word things because I have discovered that in my conversations with Trump supporters one of the fast ways to get them to shutdown listening to you is to hit them with a blanket statement that supposedly applies to them.
It is not that I want to keep doing it, and yeah, some Trump supporters are not reachable in any way, but I always figure if a person asks me to have a conversation with them about it...somewhere in there they are questioning if they should be backing someone like Trump.
So, if they are questioning it, then yeah, I think you are right, Andi, that's when we need to reach out to our wacky brethren.
It's why when our old pals Pat and Marc would come around here I figured if they want to keep chatting with us, they must be thinking about what they are thinking...or not thinking...what other reason would they have for coming here? Sure, I get that part of being a Trump supporter is you troll people.
Julia asked me the other day when we were out, "Why are Trump supporters signs and flags so big and the Harris signs just normal size?" and I said "It is part of their instinct to troll. They put up massive signs and massive flags because they know it annoys people and they hope they are annoying people with them. And it works, look at you, you are annoyed, so it worked."
"Really?" she said.
"Or they are just compensating for something. You know Trump has tiny hands right?" I replied, and she punched me in the arm.
