Obviously, the maximum sentence for this is 4 years for each felony count. While Trump is totally unrepentant for his crimes, that's not a sentence anybody would impose.
I think the sentence needs to reflect the fact that Trump committed these crimes, 34 of them (even though they are multiple charges for the same crimes basically), that Trump is unrepentant for committing these crimes, would commit them again if given the chance, and that they reflect his overall goal that what he was doing with this crime was what he was doing in several others he committed over time, which was to steal an election, in this case through falsifying records so his voters did not know what he had done.
So, I think Merchan should give him a 4 year prison sentence but suspend that sentence and have Trump do a period of house arrest beginning at some point in 2025, give him the maximum fine, probation for at least a 2 year period, and give him some community service he must complete. Violation of any of the terms of the sentence causing him to be immediately remanded to prison to serve out his jail time. None of which will teach Trump anything because he is not a guy that learns anything and all he will want is revenge. He belongs in a jailcell but if you put him in one, I really think he becomes a martyr that will cause his fan base to want to commit violence on many people. They are already saying they need to start killing people now because Trump was found guilty.
Now, Trump is likely to appeal this decision, and as he always does, he will try to push the appeal trial out to as far away as possible. So, the likelihood is none of whatever Merchan gives him will go into effect until after the well after the election.
Plus, I mean, Trump probably hopes he can regain the presidency, have Merchan and every juror, prosecutor, and a whole bunch of Democrats and Republicans he does not like publicly executed. Yeah, he is that sick a person.
