Icon Fundamentalist religious types and shared morals and values

I think the thing with religious types and involving themselves with scum like Trump always involves the same lie they tell themselves to excuse any horror that happens...god works in mysterious ways. This is what they tell themselves and the flock.

If something horrible happens, well, god meant that to happen. It was part of his plan. So, just say thoughts and prayers and move on because that was god's will.

So, gun down children, watch the slaughter of thousands on TV, wars, pestilence, famine, raining frogs, whatever...thoughts and prayers, part of god's plan.

If you ask a religious type, "Is god perfect?" they will tell you of course he is.

If you then ask "Then why are his plans so imperfect? Why do they suck?"

They will just reply "I don't know why god works the way he does. He is god only he knows why."

You ask "Why would he pick someone as vile as Donald Trump to be his guy? Couldn't he get someone better?"

They say "God can choose an imperfect vessel to do his work."

So, you ask "Doesn't god have a set of rules we are supposed to live by?"

They say "Of course!"

You say "But we don't need to follow those rules and we could still be his guy, a big part of his plan. We can cheat on our wives with porn stars and playmates, right after our wife has had our child and that is totally fine. We can lie, cheat, steal and no big deal, just an imperfect vessel doing god's work."

The religious type says "Well, god's rules are perfect we are not. We must ask for forgiveness."

You say "Well, if god is perfect, and his rules are perfect, why can't he pick people that follow his rules to be his earthly vessel instead of scum like Donald Trump, who pretty much stands in opposition to all of his rules and cares nothing about forgiveness?"

Answer "God works in mysterious ways."

Really the most convenient of lies to tell ourselves. Thoughts and prayers.

It's just a way for them to excuse the fact they do not have an answer to abominations that are in our power to stop but they will not because...well...god wants it that way.

God wants children gunned down, wars to rage, pestilence and famine. God is working his plan. We are supposed to go back to shopping and accept we do not understand it. Thoughts and prayers.

Oddly, where they feel they do need to intervene, to insert themselves to stop something apparently their perfect god allowed to come into being and can't stop himself, with all his power and perfection, is with abortion and whatever gay people are up to. Those things, not part of god's plan. In those cases god is not working in mysterious ways, he's just confounded and can't do anything about these imperfections...so, for that, god needed Donald Trump. Not so perfect. In fact pretty much the opposite of perfect.

And so, to them, whatever Trump does, anything that pops up in his filthy little brain, is...well...god's plan. This they have bestowed upon him.

In fact Christian preachers have been alarmed by members of their flock coming up to them and telling them that Jesus was a pussy and Donald Trump more represents what god stands for. They have been writing articles about this. They believe, they should follow the teachings of Trump not this hippie pansy Jesus. That whole turn the other cheek thing being what someone without a gun might do. In the gospel of Trump you do not turn the other cheek, if someone slaps you, you blow them away with your assault rifle. Thoughts and prayers.

The shift, and maybe it happens in a sort of cycle for human beings, is that for whatever period of time, maybe we did have shared morals and values. We agreed upon what is right and wrong, what might be considered good, and what we would consider evil.

However, with the internet and propaganda right wing media, and to some extent some general media, we no longer agree on what is right, what is good, what is fair, what it means to be kind, or forgiving, or understanding, we don't agree on logic, facts, or what is true. We have been pushed to disagree and in a major way.

So, we are less tethered to a social construct that is meant to work for all and instead have backed into our corners. And doing this, is dangerous. It makes someone like Trump that wants to take full advantage of our division extremely dangerous. And in general, this leads to piles of dead bodies until, as a group, we say "Hey, this is not working."

They hope is obviously we say it before we end up with the piles of dead bodies. Ask a Palestinian.

Thoughts and prayers.
