Interesting thoughts, EEE, and thank you for sharing.  You reminded me of the David Brooks article many years ago I found intriguing.  He certainly has his faults (IIRC David called him "soft-brained") and I don't completely agree with the conclusions.  Nevertheless, I thought he made a compelling argument about how individual rights and collective identity are in precarious balance and need a symbiotic relationship for each to truly thrive.  I suppose I have my biases as he he had me at attachment theory.
