There would be no need to apologize that you were a conservative. I would respect that position if you were. The problem is, Donald Trump is not a conservative, never was, never will be. He subscribes to only this philosophy, everything is about and must benefit him and whomever he can sucker, deserves to be suckered.
Great that you liked my post but it was not really about 9/11, it was about how 9/11 brought us all together and Donald Trump is about ripping us all apart. His intent is to do the exact opposite to us as a society than what 9/11 did to us. Where a tragedy like 9/11 brought out the best in many people, Donald Trump seeks to bring out the worst in people. He does it daily.
Trump is trying to make people hate each other, to discourage helping each other, to push us apart. His rhetoric is all about appealing to a small group of loons and giving the finger to the everybody else. He openly says either worship me or you are my enemy. Then he threatens everyone that won't bend their knee to him.
Between quoting Hitler, saying he wants to suspend the Constitution, promising to punish all of his supposed enemies...the guy is the textbook definition of a fascist.
Now, if you want to apologize for backing a guy that is a fascist, that openly says he wants to destroy American democracy, that is a Hitler quoting nut, that wants to be "installed" as president and have absolute immunity for anything he does including killing anybody that runs against him...well...feel free to apologize for that because supporting that kind of madness does make you owe your sane fellow Americans an apology.
A Trump supporter is not a conservative. So, you can't be both, you have to choose one or the other. Ask Ken Buck, or Mike Gallagher, or Mitt Romney, or Liz Cheney, or Bill Barr, or any of the long list of people fleeing from Donald Trump's new dangerous MAGA party.
Trump has destroyed conservativism, so to claim that is what you are as he attempts to eradicate the last vestiges of it, well, that sounds like you are a very confused person. You are either in for a big surprise, or you are just going along with Trump's game.
I don't know who made up the lie, it could have been Trump himself, but there is this totally made-up story that on 9/11 Trump rushed to the scene of the collapsed towers and began pulling people from the rubble, this was what I was mocking in my 9/11 post. Trump toads actually would tell that story. He never did that, he called in to a TV show and bragged, elated, that he now had the tallest building in lower Manhattan. That's what he was celebrating that day. He would not pull anybody from the rubble nor would he help anyone.
I can see why you ignored that in your reply but it comes across really weird that you did.
