There had been a wonderful music teacher at my junior high school name Carole Keiser who'd seen past my obvious psycho-emotional difficulties and recruited me for her chorus, but I thought chorus was for saps, or whatever dim-witted 13-year-old's thought processes can be termed as. But I had had a few months of decent training from her, and that came in very handy. Also, I'd learned to breathe from my belly in martial arts classes already by that age, and that was even more useful. Lastly, digging ditches on a construction crew, where I learned to commit wholly to a physical movement, that was helpful too, in that regard. You can't dig a ditch unless you're really willing to commit to each strike of the shovel, and you can't sing unless you're willing to do the same.
