Not even close Reg.

OK, but I mean, I can't see anything else here. Gaetz and his MAGA squad appears to have done this just because they could. The House is now in chaos and they had to end a meeting of Republican members because it was about to turn into a series of fistfights. So, if Gaetz wanted to break-up the Republicans into warring factions and make more Republicans walk away from the party in disgust...mission accomplished. I don't see it helping anybody, and Gaetz admits it may cost him his seat, but I am pretty certain he is well on his way to being a FOX or some Right wing media commentator anyway. So, he seems not to really care. It may be a win in his eyes for him because he is the first guy to oust a House Speaker in history so he thinks that makes him famous. I don't really know, but whatever it is you see here as long game, Pat, I am totally lost.

It's amazing listening to the so called conservative swamp rat political pundits after this happened.

I've not heard them so don't know what they are saying.

If you think there were only 8 defectors in the GOP House you are fooling yourself.

Well, 8 that were out in the open. Not sure about others. I think the majority of Republicans by far did not want to remove McCarthy. I'm sure many don't like him, he lies to everybody, he switches positions every time the wind blows, makes up crazy stuff when he feels like it, and was not long for the job anyway once he gave in to the MAGA rules change that just one congressperson could initiate a vote to remove the Speaker. So, I mean I don't have an issue with him being removed, I thought it was inevitable because once Gaetz got that power, you knew he or one of his buddies would soon pull the trigger on it...and here we are.

Reg you are focusing on the short game. There you go take it from there.

I'm lost, Pat. I can't see a long game in this. I mean, I know Gaetz wanted to follow Trump's instructions and shut down the government. So, when McCarthy cut the deal to keep the government functioning (the sane and correct thing to do) Gaetz, on behalf of Donald and the crazies, was then prepared to initiate removing him.

He does that, chaos ensues, Republicans are at each other's throats, Democrats are openly laughing at Gaetz. This will help make it more difficult to get anything done but this is a Republican majority House, so Gaetz just makes the Republicans look like they don't know what they are doing and are useless. So, the Republicans are made to look like the fools here. They are openly the party of total chaos. There is no win in that for Republicans. It separates the party even further. So, the only long game I see is the Republican party splintering into two different parties.

Each side truly hates the other. Be clear in this though, MAGA is the smaller contingent here. So, if they break off, they are in the weakest position. It weakens and alters the Republican party as well but not to the extent of how that would leave MAGA as a noisy little bunch that would have almost no influence anymore.

Help me out here, Pat. Explain what you see as the long game here. I honestly can't figure it out beyond what I have said. Do you think Gaetz was right to remove McCarthy? Which side of the Republican party do you think is better off here, MAGA or the Republicans that are not MAGA? I honestly can't see a win for any of them in what Gaetz did. It seems totally nuts to me.
