I was quite obviously a huge fan of The Band. Never saw them with Robbie but saw them when they were playing without him. I enjoyed some of Robbie's solo work but to me, his second act and great contribution musically was to the films he worked on with Scorsese. He did such a fantastic job assembling the music for those projects. I'm glad he got to do Killers of the Flower Moon before he died. It seems like a project that would have really interested him.
I always found it sad that he and Levon ended up on bad terms. Essentially, Levon held a grudge against Robbie for years. They kind of resolved it to a degree on Levon's death bed when Robbie went to visit him before he passed.
I never met Robbie, but I did meet all the other members of The Band. They were all very good guys, in my meetings with them. Levon was always such a sweetheart it was hard to imagine him holding a grudge against Robbie...I never asked him about that feeling it was none of my business.
Robbie was a great storyteller and I always enjoyed hearing him speak. He took part in an amazing period in rock 'n' roll in one of the most cherished groups in the history of that genre. They were unique and that is not a repeatable event.
