I think that the Democrats benefit from having Trump around. He is the Republican Hillary Clinton. He polarizes everything and so many people can't stand him including Republicans that he gives Democrats an advantage. Trump causes voters in his own party to vote against Republicans. In this way Trump is the gift that keeps on giving. 

Republicans know this, they just fear Trump because his supporters are so nuts that if they go against them, they and their families, will get death threats. Nobody wants to put their family through that. This is the poisoning of the well, to make good sane people avoid politics because Trump scum will come after you. Not just at the voting booth, they will threaten to kill your spouse and children. The Trump family celebrated the attack of Paul Pelosi. These are horrid people. 

Democrat strategists would love Trump to run in 2024. Mainly because he is pretty much a guarantee that the Democrats would win the White House. Just like Democrats could not see that with Hillary Clinton, many Republicans can't see it with Trump. The only reason people don't want Trump to run is Trump will continue to fan the flames to destroy our country and electoral system. 

Which brings us to the primary point which is that Republicans have to clean up their own mess. Democrats can't do it for them and truthfully, I think there are Democrats that are perfectly happy to watch Trump slaughter the Republican party. 

So, I think both parties need to look at these results closely. Trump backed candidates have done poorly for the most part but they had hundreds of lawsuits filed before a vote was cast yesterday so expect a lot of lawsuits and a lot of lies about stolen elections so that the MAGA morons stay engaged. 

If Republicans backed by Trump lose, then why would Republicans want him to run for president in 2024? 

I suppose for some of the same reasons Democrats backed Hillary Clinton, however, both candidates have been shown to be horrible for their parties. 

The Trump 2024 ticket appears to likely be Trump with Kari Lake as his VP. It looks like she lost her election bid yesterday, so that's a pair of highly divisive losers. If I am a Republican that is not a nut, well, that is the last ticket I would want.
