I see the momentum you speak of, as playing out on a giant football field with a huge rubber band in between two teams, one of which consists of those you mention headed by Russia and China, the other of a weakened US and European Union which finds itself on it own 30 yard line at present. A victorious Trump will only further weaken the team on its 30, seeing the other team flexing muscles a victory by Biden will deflate and, if Biden rejoins unions Trump has pulled out of; enacts legislation providing the rebuilding of the US's infrastructure; topples Trump tax breaks which furthered the damage Reagan tax cuts had begun, converting the US from World War II community to an individualism that wreaked havoc on the little guy, eventually, spawning anti-wealth-bought-government hatred into the militias and white supremacy groups we worry about this election season; Restores jobs, forces the burgeoning stack of billionaires to pay "their fair share" recreating a community of citizens rather than the distrusting groups stirring the pot of civil war; that group of nations forcing us to our 30 will collapse, then attempt to regroup as they always do when they've been thrown back.'
When. as some have pointed out, we realize the individualism that springs from community is far healthier than the one that gave birth to the Gates and Bezos greedy billionaire type of individualism, sprouting, as it always has, charitable foundations to take our attention from their unholy accumulation of wealth, we will regain the moral high ground Trump has spit on and levelled, and drive our opponents back to their 20 yard line.
If both sides, then, call time-out and begin to talk about planet threatening problems such as climate change and as man moves further into animal havens, increasing health-threatening pandemics, maybe, just maybe, we will grow to know that we are citizens of the planet. The goal posts of acrimony may be knocked down and scrapped, and my great grand children will grow to old age, which by that time will be 120.
