"As for the people that attend his rallies and still support him...well...they are lost to us. What else can you show them to get them to understand this guy thinks they are complete suckers and fools? You've got countless people that worked in his administration that have told them Trump is dangerous and is actively destroying the country. They have now heard Trump on tape betraying them and fully admitting he misled them and likes misleading them."

I think the way to do that is for him to lose. To his supporters, the perception of his success, of his image as a "winner" is a lot of the oxygen that feeds their hopes and dreams. If and once he loses, some of that cachet goes away. If he flails around and looks like a petulant teen, that feeling will magnify. This is one reason I was so unhappy about Hugo Chavez dying of cancer while still in office. It never allowed him to truly fail in the eyes of his cult in Venezuela. As a result, the misery has gone on another 8 years and counting. Meanwhile, if the economic crises of the last 5 years in Venezuela had happened with him still in office, he would have had to own it. This is also reason to not assassinate political leaders you don't like. As in Star Wars, there's a kind of an enduring power in martyrdom.
