Much of it, as you know, will depend on the election, whether or not Democrats win the Senate--perhaps permanently ridding the landscape of Mitch McConnell-- and retain the House, itself an expression of the correction you rightly predict.  And 270 electoral college votes that say:  You're fired!

A moderate policy change would seem more than an equal-opposite extreme to Trump followers, although with the exception of socialism inspired healthcare,  I expect the correction to be slightly to the left,: a more thoughtful response than an automatic one to Trump's pathological policies that have damaged this nation both domestically and abroad.

Absolutely, "We have to move away from the particular brand of white-supremacist know-nothing  right wing policies Trump wallows in." Any brand of white supremacy stalls ridding this beacon of equality the inequality of racism.

Considering it all, we will emerge a better nation, with possible protections against the likes of a Donald Trump ever being elected again.  Short of a psychiatric exam, I'm not sure what those would be at this time.
