No. It was at Duxford. He’s originally from Dane Hill in Sussex.
One of the first items I bought for John on eBay was a 1:32 scale metal diecast model of a hurricane signed by a Battle of France pilot, Billy Drake. I got chatting via email with the seller who turned out to be an aviation engineer who restored warbirds at North Weald in Essex.
He invited John to attend a hurricane muster at the airfield in October of the same year. After not going to the UK for over 20 years, he went twice in 6 months! I think there were 6 or 7 flying hurricanes and several of the gallant veterans who flew them in attendance - the highlight of John’s life.
The engineer and his wife then came out here and stayed with us. We stayed with them again in 2017 by which time they had two kids and six cats, but that’s another story.
