Watching Chris Hayes last night, the discussion was that the powers that be were keeping their powder dry waiting for Trump to self destruct, then jump in and put the resources in to the establishment survivor. Ronnie's don't speak ill of fellow republicans rule was in operation.

They now realize this isn't working and have switched tactics and started using the oppo research to bring Trump to heel/kill the insurgency. Whether they have waited too long will play out over the coming weeks.

I'm in agreement with that line of reasoning, but I'm wondering if it's too late for the party as a whole. They have courted, then sold out the right fringe for so long on so many issues that the torches and pitchforks were inevitable. How they didn't see this coming is beyond me.

On the other side, Hillary/DNC VS Bernie has similar connotations for the left.
