Huge restrictions. In fact, the Chinese government even retains the power to name/approve Bishops in the Catholic Church there. Religious freedom in China isn't all it's cracked up to be. The problem I have with the government interference is the Communist/Maoist/Statist government being a just-as- bad stand-in.

What I'm really getting as is that I don't buy into the Chinese cultural philosophy that puts the "whole" above the individual. In theory, that sounds nice, but in practice it is tyranny.

This is not to say that people in the US couldn't use a dose of community and bit less narcissism.
