What is astounding is that so many people see the acts of 9/11 as reflecting on all Muslims. The previous administration, the religious right, and the media have all done an excellent job of making Islam = Terrorism, and the general public have swallowed it hook line and sinker. The levels of ignorance displayed on this issue are astounding, and anyone with half a brain should be able to see that a) The proposed mosque is not at ground zero, it is a couple of blocks away, and b) the proposed mosque is actually already in existence at said site, they wish to tear down the existing building and start again.

Rumors are rampant about sources of funds, what this mosque means to jihadists, etc etc. I'm sickened every time I hear someone who should be using intelligence and reason cave in to the fear-mongering and nationalistic chest-thumping.
